The series "Oyinbo Pepe: We Are Interwoven" explores cultural identity through family history. The pieces use photographs from my Midwestern mother’s childhood interlaced with patterns from articles of clothing from my father’s family in Nigeria, reclaiming a cultural identity that has been fragmented and partly lost-in-translation over the decades. The photographs - partially concealed by Nigerian textile patterns- form a narrative reflecting on duality. The series creates a visual representation of the complex, fluid, and diverse experiences of a multicultural identity in America.
